Description
Ancient Iranians celebrated Mehregan, an important festival that was traditionally marked by wearing purple (magenta ) clothing and gathering together to feast. My artwork is inspired by my research into this ancient festival, and aims to highlight some of the key elements of the celebration.
In the artwork, I have included details such as the food served, the instruments used, the clothing worn, and the dance moves of the women, all of which are carefully illustrated to create an accurate representation of the festivities.

Description
One of the most ancient Iranian celebrations is Nowruz, the New Year’s festival that takes place at the beginning of spring. Iranians have been celebrating Nowruz for centuries, and there are many rituals associated with the festival, such as cleaning the house and purchasing new clothes. In my artwork, I tried to depict one of the most iconic symbols of Nowruz from ancient times: the planting of twelve columns of raw clay in the city square, each with a different type of bean.
The growth of these beans was believed to predict the yield of crops for the year, and farmers would use the growth of the beans as a sign of what to expect in terms of harvests for the year. I have attempted to capture this tradition in my painting, using acrylics on linen fabric to create a vivid representation of this ancient rite of passage into the new year.
